Despite the Covid_19, the Lac au Duc pilot project continues to advance

The year 2020 will have been a year of all twists and turns linked to the global Covid_19 epidemic. The health crisis greatly slowed down the process of constructing the first PES contracts in the territory, which began at the meeting in Guilliers on December 13, 2019. The confinements and health restrictions prevented the field teams from meeting the farmers, elected officials and companies.

The project team nevertheless continued to work remotely and made progress on at least 5 points:

  1. Construction of an address book for companies likely to finance the "Lac au Duc" PSE scheme. Meetings with companies will resume from the deconfinement, contacts are launched.
  2. Identification with the Brittany Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) and the Breton Association of Agri-Food Companies (ABEA) of criteria favorable to the involvement of companies in the financing of the "Lac au Duc" PSE scheme
  3. Winners of the “PSE” Call for Projects launched by the Loire-Bretagne Water Agency, which allows the Regional Chamber of Agriculture of Brittany and the Alli'Homme association to join the Interreg consortium for the concrete implementation of PES contracts on a pilot sub-basin of Lac au Duc, Rézo. We are now working hand in hand for the deployment of the device in the territory.
  4. Assessment of the attributes selected to improve water quality (establishment of hedges and permanent plant cover) from the point of view of their capacity to store carbon in soils. This work involves thinking about the construction of a PES offer based not only on the water service but also on other services such as climate (carbon storage), even biodiversity, and so on '' broaden the panel of companies likely to finance the “Lac au Duc” PSE scheme
  5. Work on a toolbox allowing to replicate the working methods

Due to the health crisis, the project, which was initially due to end on December 31, 2020, will be extended until the end of April 2021 in order to allow the teams to move forward in the contracting of PES in the Lac au Duc territory and ensure the sustainability of commitments in favor of the environment and biodiversity.
